The Myths of Pop Culture

Society tells us that the rich, powerful or famous have it all. But such features can be as much a curse as they are a blessing.

Pop Art offers us a revived look at how pop culture traffics in distorted and destructive ideals of femininity. Throughout history, we have observed an entire movement of print and television advertisements which lay bare a stunning pattern of damaging gender stereotypes.

Through the works of Luca Valentini, it challenges us to take advertising less seriously, and to think critically about popular culture and its relationship to misleading ideas and messages that too often reinforce unrealistic, and unhealthy, perceptions of beauty, perfection, success, power and gender.
Read on as Valentini explores how false constructs and realities of fame and physical beauty have informed our lives for both better and worse and how this is reflected in his art.
