RIMOWA unveiled its first-ever historical archive exhibition with Sotheby’s in New York City. The retrospective, titled “RIMOWA Archive Collection 1898 -2019” explores the brand’s 121-year contribution to the culture of traveling in style. The week long space features dozens of never-before-seen historic luggage pieces dating back over a century, as well as contemporary releases including collabs with OFF-WHITE™, Supreme, Daniel Arsham, and more.
Highlights from the exhibition includes the recently unveiled Dior hand case and backpack. The special-edition collaboration was based on the RIMOWA Piccolo case from the 1990s, and unveiled at the fashion houses men’s summer 2020 show. It’s the first time the piece has been revived from the archives.
There’s also the go-to movie star case of the ’90s, Gold Attaché. Featured in countless movies from Robert De Niro’s Ronin to Mission Impossible, the legendary RIMOWA Attaché is the stuff of spy movies and high-powered Hollywood villains.
The “RIMOWA Archive Collection 1898 -2019” will be on display to the public from September 20 to 25 at Sotheby’s New York.
