POMELLATO AND DODO LAUNCH CAMPAIGN & CROWDFUNDING AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Alarmed by the recrudescence of domestic abuse during mandatory confinement, Pomellato, champion of women’s rights after founding the #PomellatoForWomen platform in 2017, along with DoDo its sister jewelry brand, launch an awareness campaign and crowdfunding initiative to support women victims of domestic violence.

Dubbed “a crisis within a crisis,” incidences of domestic abuse have been increasing rapidly as self-isolation and lockdown measures – now affecting up to half of the world’s population – force a dangerous proximity between abusers and their victims. According to an NGO based out of Jingzhou, Hubei near the Chinese epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis, the number of cases of domestic violence against women doubled in February 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

Ranking #50 in the Global Gender Gap Index compiled by the United Nations, Italy has become one of the developed countries where the situation is particularly concerning. Of 19% of all female Italian victims to have reported Physical and/or Sexual Domestic Partner violence in their lifetime, another 6% have done so in the last 12 months alone.

For the past 10 years, Pomellato has been supporting CADMI, a women’s shelter based in Milan, part of the D.i.RE network of anti-violence centers. Pomellato decided to launch a crowdfunding initiative to benefit both of these two indispensable entities, jumpstarting the initiative with a pledge of 100.000€ to be used for the immediate aid of women victims of abuse. Pomellato is urging its fans around the world to join them in supporting domestic abuse victims at this especially crucial time.

Lending their voices to support this initiative, Pomellato and DoDo past and present ambassadors share their own messages to give a new significance to the Pomellato For Women initiative.

Sabina Belli, Pomellato Group CEO including the DoDo brand, explains, “Pomellato has always been a brand devoted to women. We were alarmed to learn of the resurgence of domestic and sexual abuse against women, directly related to the restraints and pressures of confinement. Pomellato will always act decisively to support womenkind, and we want women victims to know they are not alone.”

At the Kering Group level, to respond to the rise in domestic abuse during this period of lockdowns and self-isolation, the Kering Foundation released today a social media campaign to inform and orient survivors of domestic violence directly to tailored support and resources made by local specialist organizations. www.keringfoundation.org
