CINDY CHAO Presents The Annual BUTTERFLY During Paris Couture Week 2019

Cindy Chao presents the stunning Annual Butterflies during Paris Couture Week in January 2019. Cindy Chao’s Annual Butterflies embody the ongoing metamorphosis of her as a jewellery artist and the advancement of techniques and craftsmanship of her eponymous brand CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel, since 2004.

A continuation of this journey, the Black Label Masterpiece “Red Diamond Butterfly Brooch” is a creation designed and crafted for influential collectors of Franco-Chinese artists, Zao Wou-Ki and Sanyu. Inspired by the artists use of the Oriental wash painting technique and the freehand impressionistic style that results in the lower chroma and free-flowing lines in their works, Chao opts for a lighter tone and a smoother structure for this new butterfly.

One of the latest creations was the 2018 Black Label Masterpiece XVII “Greenovia Brooch”. This piece features an elegant yet whimsical 105.37-carat Cat’s eye chrysoberyl. The “Greenovia Brooch” is a more sculptural reinterpretation of Cindy Chao’s “Tipsy Brooch” created in 2009. To do so, the jewellery artist skillfully played around with nearly 2,500 pieces of 6 varieties of green gemstones to create 16 silk-like chromatic grades and shades on the petals. These include tsavorites, alexandrites, green sapphires, demantoids and emerald. Each and every stone in different sizes, these gems are carefully set on curved titanium-based petals whose forging requires the mastery of titanium craftsmanship in terms of temperature and setting. The petals are meant to closely surround the center stone, as a way to create a dynamic, theatric appearance of the piece.
